As a Joint External Evaluation (JEE) committee member, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) provided a technical expert for Mongolia's JEE led by Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO) held on November 17-24, 2023.

As an effort to respond to public health emergencies, WHO arranges JEE teams by bringing together internal and external technical experts to jointly evaluate each country's capacities in relation to the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR). The Government of Mongolia conducted its second JEE, in partnership with WPRO in November 2023.

The JEE evaluates IHR capacities across 19 technical areas, and KDCA's expert (Dr. Eunjin Kim, Division Director for Emerging Infectious Diseases) participated in evaluation activities in 3 areas (National Laboratory System, Biosafety and Biosecurity and Health Emergency System) to discuss effective ways of strengthening Mongolia's public health system.

As a part of process to develop, evaluate and monitor countries' capacities required by IHR (2005), the JEE provides a framework to support countries to advance national capacities for safeguarding people's health. Going forward, it is expected that KDCA's active and consistent participation in JEE activities will help promote international cooperation and further enhance Korea's global standing.
