* Figures may change based on findings from ongoing local epidemiological investigation efforts.

Of the 58 new cases, 3 were imported cases and 55 were locally transmitted cases.

  - Of the 3 imported cases, 2 are from America, 1 from Bangladesh.

Related to the Coupang logistics center cluster in Bucheon-si, Gyeonggi Province, in total, 102* cases have been confirmed as of 12:00 today. Self-quarantine and testing is underway for all workers who have worked at the logistics center since 12 May.

*72 workers of the logistics center; 30 contacts (family members sharing living space) / Gyeonggi=42, Incheon=41, Seoul=19

  - KCDC requested workers who worked at Coupang logistics center during the period starting on 12 May should get tested (wearing mask mandatory) and self-quarantine. Also, if there is student or a school staff among family, they should stop going to school. If there is a healthcare worker or social worker among family, they should limit work.

As of 12:00 today, there are 266 confirmed cases in total related to the nightclubs, including 5* new cases since 12:00 yesterday.

*(Seoul) 2 residents of the building of Geumho 7080 bar; (Incheon) 1 contact of FINE S.B.S Sauna and 2 family members of the contact

Related to the biblical language study meeting cluster, 1 additional case was confirmed, bringing the total to 13 confirmed cases. The new case is presumed to have contracted the virus through coming in contact with a confirmed case from Jusarang Church at Rapha Healing Prayer House.

In Yonsei Naro Academy in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul City, 7* cases have been confirmed. All staff and students have been placed under self-quarantine. All persons are being tested.

  *Incheon=6, Seoul=2 / Teacher=1, Students=2, Contacts of teacher=4

In an effort to stop further local transmission of COVID-19 within communities as early as possible, KCDC is conducting mass testing of persons who visited public venues and events visited by confirmed COVID-19 cases.

  - Persons who visited such places during the respective specified time period are advised to visit a screening clinic and get tested regardless of symptoms. (The list is provided on the final page.)

In response to the evaluation of the Central Clinical Committee, KCDC is planning to apply for special importation of overseas drug remdesivir with the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for COVID-19 treatment.

  - On 28 May, the Central Clinical Committee (Chaired by Dr Oh Myoung Don) provided its opinion that remdesivir is evaluated as safe and effective for COVID-19 pneumonia treatment and that it agrees that introduction of remdesivir is medically necessary at the current state with no antiviral treatment available.

Yesterday (28 May), through Emergency Ministerial Meeting, enhanced epidemic control measures were implemented for Seoul Metropolitan Region residents and facilities until 14 June.

* Seoul Metropolitan Region accounted for 88.4% (160 out of 181) of all local transmission cases last week (5.215.27)

* Examples of major outbreaks:

- Clubs/bars : Multiple nightclubs in Itaewon, Byeolbam Poca in Seoul, Jakuwa in Anyang-si

- Singing rooms : (Seoul) Gawang Coin Karaoke, Byeolbyeol Coin Karaoke, (Incheon) Top Coin Singing Room, etc

- Religious events : Biblical language study -- (Yangcheon-gu, Seoul) Grace Methodist Church, (Dobong-gu, Seoul) Grace Church, (Nowon-gu, Seoul) Rapha Healing Prayer House, (Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi Province) Hwado Uri Church, (Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi Province) Jusarang Church, etc

- Restaurants : (Seoul) Ilu Duck, (Bucheon) Laon Party House, etc.

- Places of business : (Bucheon) Coupang logistics center, (Seoul) KB Life Insurance TM Insurance Branch, etc

- Hagwon (after-school private academies) : (Incheon) Seum Academy, (Seoul) Yeonsei Naro Academy, etc

Bars, singing rooms, hagwon, PC cafes, etc. in Seoul Metropolitan Region may be subject to gathering ban and recommended to refrain from operating as per executive action by the Central Disaster Management Headquarters or local municipal government.

  - If operation is unavoidable, such facilities are required to follow all infectious disease prevention and control measures including making a log of all entrants, requiring mask wearing, restricting entry of symptomatic persons, checking workers for symptoms, sending symptomatic workers home, designating a disease control manager, disinfecting, and ensuring 2 meter distance between all users.

  - There will be regular on-site inspection for such facilities. Facilities that operate without proper infectious disease control measures may face further action including gathering ban and legal filing of complaint.

In business establishments, all persons should wear a facemask when using indoor break rooms, changing rooms, or other publicly shared indoor areas. Such areas should not be used by multiple people at the same time.

  - Indoor smoking rooms should be prohibited and outdoor areas should be utilized instead. Commute buses should have hand sanitizers in place and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as handles.

  - Cafeterias should operate in time shifts and install dividers between seats or have people sit in one line or in alternating arrangement to avoid sitting face-to-face while eating.

In religious facilities, online and other non-face-to-face and contactless methods of gathering and worship are recommended. Small scale gathering should also be refrained.

  - Religious facilities hosting on-site events need to reduce the number of participants so that proper distance can be maintained between participants, check for fever, require mask wearing, and refrain from providing mass meals or droplet-producing activities such as singing, chanting, and shouting.

In light of the recent rise in local transmissions in the Seoul Metropolitan Region, KCDC urged people in the capital region to refrain from social gathering or visiting any enclosed/confined/crowded spaces that are frequented by many people.

  - People who cannot avoid visiting an enclosed/crowded space for an essential reason should carefully follow personal hygiene measures including keeping 2 meters of distance from other people, wearing a facemask, avoiding handshakes, washing hands, and not touching eyes, nose, or mouth with their hands.

  - Persons belonging to high-risk groups (including elderly, pregnant women, persons with chronic illness) should especially avoid any poorly ventilated enclosed space frequented by many people. If such a situation cannot be avoided for an essential reason, it is highly important to wear a facemask.

Anyone who has come in close contact with a large number of unspecified persons in an enclosed/confined space such as clubs or bars need to be tested at a screening clinic through public health center or 1339 call center.

  - KCDC urged people to visit a screening clinic and get tested especially if two or more persons within a household or social group develop COVID-19 suspected symptoms.

“5 Basic Infection Prevention Rules for Everyone”

(1) Stay home for 3-4 days if you get sick.

(2) Keep a distance of two arms’ length between you and other people.

(3) Wash your hands for 30 seconds. Cough/sneeze into your sleeve.

(4) Ventilate your space at least twice a day and disinfect regularly.
