Fourth case of MIS-C associated with COVID-19 in the Republic of Korea

On March 10, KDCA shared that a fourth case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children and Adolescents (MIS-C) associated with COVID-19 in the Republic of Korea was reported.
The third case was reported in October of last year. Since then, 5 suspected cases have been reported. Upon epidemiological investigation, laboratory tests, and expert committee discussion, 1 case was determined to fit the case definition of MIS-C associated with COVID-19.
The patient, a 15-year-old male, contracted COVID-19 through contact with a confirmed case. He was admitted to a residential treatment center on December 11, 2020 and was discharged on December 25. Later he developed diarrhea and headache and was admitted to a hospital (January 23 – February 3, 2021) and was discharged upon recovery.
The case was reported to KDCA on January 1, 2021. Upon investigation and laboratory testing and expert review, it was determined that the case was a MIS-C associated with COVID-19.
KDCA said it will continue surveillance and investigation of MIS-C associated with COVID-19 in Korea and reminded the public to continue to practice infection prevention measures such as mask wearing, hand washing, and social distancing in everyday life.
