Korea Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, or KCDC is the national principal agency for public health, has protected people's health and secure lives for the past 60 years. KCDC has recently been relocated to Osong, Chungbuk Province, and is making a new leap to emerge as the pivotal institution in public health management in Korea. Its ceaseless efforts meet the expectations and supports from the Korean people. KCDC implements preventive measures and procures medical resources to control infectious diseases that could potentially spread. Also, accurate information is provided to the public and control and preventive measures are carried out according to the stage in a crisis situation. A national immunization program is implemented as a means to prevent infectious diseases and improve immunization. Furthermore, the surveillance system is in place to prevent and control major chronic diseases that put a financial burden on the nation, in addition to the development and distribution of health guidelines and provision of evidence-based public health programs. Moreover, a transparent organ transplant management system and a blood safety management system have been established to ensure safety in supplying human derivatives. The Korea National Institute of Health performs research on disease-related medical technologies, undertakes advanced medical studies on health and aging, acute and chronic diseases, vaccines against emerging/re-emerging infectious diseases, treatments for chronic illnesses, women and low birth rate, treatments for rare and incurable diseases, stem cell regeneration, and the genome study of Koreans. KCDC plans to contribute to the advancement of public healthcare by undertaking the 2020 5star plus project, based on the four values - service, change, creation and rewarding contribution, with the ultimate objective to protect national health and promote longevity. A disease-free country with its people leading happy and healthy lives, That is the future of Korea envisioned by KCDC, the hope of the nation. KCDC undertakes ceaseless challenges to ensure a brighter and healthier future for Korea.
