- To prevent and respond to emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases, the importance of the “One Health” approach — based on the recognition that human, animal, and environmental health are interconnected — has been increasingly emphasized. Accordingly, a legal basis has been established to create a council led by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency with participation from relevant ministries.

To strengthen preparedness and response capacity for zoonotic diseases, seminars on zoonotic diseases are being conducted by inviting experts, targeting officials from other ministries and local governments involved in zoonotic disease-related work. Through the seminars, the latest research trends and knowledge in various health fields are shared, while providing opportunities to strengthen cooperation and communication among infectious disease officials. - (One Health capacity building course)
In 2023, to improve the understanding of One Health among officials from relevant ministries and local governments, One Health lecture content was developed and a One Health capacity building course was established at the Korea Human Resource Development Institute for Health and Welfare. The One Health instructor training program consists of online pre-education and group education. Specifically, the online pre-education includes 13 lectures by experts in fields such as medicine, veterinary science, ecology, and climate change. The group education includes one specialized subject in the participant’s work field and three courses on teaching methods. - (International One Health Policy Forum)
Since 2019, the “One Health Policy Forum” has been held annually to strengthen the foundation for One Health cooperation through domestic and international academic exchange and information sharing. Starting in 2023, the forum has been elevated to an international event, establishing an international One Health network with participation from organizations such as WHO and FAO as well as domestic and foreign experts, thereby expanding the platform for policy communication.
