Justification Guidelines for Diagnostic Imaging
Meaning
- Clinical guidelines that review whether a radiation examination is necessary according to the patient's disease and condition, leading to a recommendation for the appropriate type of diagnostic imaging
Necessity
- Utilizing these guidelines in clinical practice helps to ensure the justification for the use of medical radiation and leads to a reduction in patient exposure dose by preventing unnecessary or duplicate examinations
Current Status
- Starting with the development of 25 key questions and 53 recommendations in 2016, additional guidelines have been developed annually. By 2024, a total of 251 key questions and 438 recommendations have been developed and distributed for 12 medical fields (neuro head and neck, thyroid, abdomen, chest, pediatrics, dentistry, musculoskeletal, urology, cardiac, breast, interventional, and nuclear medicine).
- In Korea, experts from academic societies in the medical field, centered around radiology specialists, are directly participating in the development of Korean-style clinical imaging guidelines.
