Project Purpose
- To understand the current status of adolescent health behaviors
- To calculate domestic and international monitoring indicators related to adolescent health behaviors
- Utilized as indicators for the National Health Promotion Plan, school health projects and policies, and WHO [World Health Organization] chronic disease prevention and management.
Progress
- (’05) Introduced as part of the "Plan for Establishing a National Chronic Disease Surveillance System," conducted annually in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
- (’09) Supported the production of health behavior statistics at the city, county, and district levels.
- (’11) Implemented annual sample design to enhance sample representativeness and facilitate the timely use of survey results.
- (’12) Implemented annual sample design to enhance sample representativeness and facilitate the timely use of survey results.
- (‘18) Changed the survey name ("Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey" → "Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey") and introduced a 3-year rotating survey system.* Survey conducted by adding in-depth questions for each domain (smoking, drinking, etc.) on a 3-year cycle to the annually surveyed questions.
- (’23) Changed the survey method (PC [personal computer] → mobile devices).

Survey Content
- (Target) Approximately 60,000 students from 1st year of middle school to 3rd year of high school (800 schools in 17 provinces and cities) To produce statistics at the provincial/city level, 800 schools (approximately 15% of the total school population) are selected, in consideration of school levels.
- (Method) Anonymous, self-administered online surv The survey is conducted during school class hours using mobile devices (tablet PCs, smartphones, etc.) under the supervision of a supporting teacher.
- (Period) June-July
- (Items) Approximately 120 items in 14 domains (smoking, drinking, physical activity, etc.). Survey domains: Smoking, drinking, physical activity, dietary habits, obesity and weight control, mental health, injury and safety awareness, oral health, personal hygiene, sexual behavior, substance use, internet addiction, health equity, and violence
